The Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency is hosting a site visit on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. The visit will start at Hopkinton Town Hall. I hope everyone can attend!
Notice of MEPA Site Visit
SUBJECT: Main Street (Route 135) Traffic Signal and Intersection Improvement Project - Hopkinton
EEA NO.: 16086
An Environmental Notification Form (ENF) was submitted to the MEPA office on behalf of the Town of Hopkinton for roadway and traffic control improvements along a 0.852 mile-long section of Main Street extending from Wood Street east to Ash Street. The project includes repaving throughout the corridor; signalization of the Wood Street/West Main Street Intersection and construction of a left turn lane at the West Main Street eastbound approach; re-aligning Grove Street at the intersection of Main Street to better align with Cedar Street; construction of an additional thru lane on the Main St. westbound approach to the Cedar Street/Grove Street intersection and installation of a new traffic signal system; installation of granite curbing; drainage system improvements; construction of bicycle lanes; sidewalk improvements; new pavement markings including sidewalks and pedestrian crossing signals; new signage, and landscaping.
The project will incorporate stormwater BMPs including the installation of 63 new deep sump catch basins with hoods. Temporary easements along the cemetery on Main Street and the Hopkinton Town Common are required. Nine public shade trees over 14 inches diameter at breast height (dbh) will be removed. The town is proposing to plant 33 new trees. The project will increase impervious area by 0.38 acres.
The project is undergoing MEPA review and requires the submission of an ENF pursuant to 301 CMR 11.03(6)(b)(2)(b) because it requires an Agency Action and will require cutting five or more living public shade trees of 14 or more inches in dbh. The project is receiving Financial Assistance from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
The site visit is scheduled as follows:
DATE: September 20, 2019
TIME: 10:00 AM
LOCATION: Hopkinton Town Hall, 18 Main Street, Hopkinton
PROJECT CONTACT: Hung Pham (857) 368-8831 hung.pham@dot.state.ma.us or Bryan Cordeiro (857) 368-8813 bryan.cordeiro@dot.state.ma.us
